Novel Reliable Technologies announced today the development of a new PMA (polymethacrylate) pour point depressant designed specifically for use in refined and re-refined base oils.
The new polymer technology has been engineered to improve low-temperature flow performance and wax crystal control, enabling lubricants formulated with a wide range of base oils—including Group I, Group II, and re-refined base stocks—to achieve superior pour point reduction and improved cold-temperature pumpability.
The PMA chemistry was developed to address the growing use of re-refined base oils in modern lubricant formulations, where conventional pour point depressants often show reduced effectiveness due to variations in wax structure and residual components.
Key performance benefits include:
- Improved pour point reduction in refined and re-refined base oils
- Enhanced wax crystal modification and flow behavior
- Compatibility with a wide range of lubricant additive packages
- Consistent performance across diverse base oil compositions
“Our goal was to design a high-performance polymethacrylate PPD that performs reliably across both virgin and re-refined basestocks,” said a spokesperson for Novel Reliable Technologies. “As sustainability and circular lubricant technologies continue to grow, formulators require additives that maintain performance without compromising environmental objectives.”
The new PMA pour point depressant is currently undergoing commercial evaluation with lubricant manufacturers and additive companies worldwide, with broader availability planned in 2026.
